The International Basketball Federation -FIBA- experienced one of its most notable weeks of the season in Debrecen, with the men’s World Tour and the women’s Women’s Series taking center stage. Spain claimed the women’s crown while Vienna lifted the men’s title after edging Skyliners in a tightly contested final.

Marbella also enjoyed a remarkable international debut, finishing the group phase unbeaten. The Spanish side secured a narrow overtime victory over Vienna and later defeated London 21-16, with Diego De Blas leading the scoring. Isaac Mayo and Godwin Osarenren Moreno added valuable contributions to a collective performance that carried the Andalusians into the knockout rounds.

Lausanne (Switzerland) and Liman (Serbia) also completed the group stage with perfect records, strengthening their status among the main contenders for the later rounds.

Spain wins the Women’s Series in Debrecen

The Spanish national team closed its campaign in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series by securing the title in Debrecen. The roster, which has remained largely unchanged since claiming the silver medal at Paris 2024, appeared in five events this season, collecting three titles and heading into the Shanghai Final as one of the leading favorites.

Olympic silver medalists Sandra Ygueravide and Vega Gimeno were decisive in the knockout stages. Gimeno, who was named Most Valuable Player (MVP), led the way in the final against Czechia with 11 points and 9 rebounds in a convincing 21-9 victory.

Czechia confirms international growth

Czechia reached the final after an impressive knockout campaign, with victories over Italy, Austria and CS Rapid Bucharest. Kristyna Brabencova, Eliska Halova and Anna Rylichova led the offensive effort, while Katerina Galickova stood out for her long-range shooting in the quarter-finals.

Although they could not overcome Spain in the championship game, the Czech side confirmed its status as a rising power in European 3×3 basketball, narrowly missing out on a place in the Shanghai Final.

Vienna takes the men’s crown in Debrecen

In the men’s competition, Vienna emerged as champion after defeating Skyliners 22-20 in the final. Enis Murati sealed the win with the decisive basket, marking the Austrian team’s first triumph of the season. Quincy Diggs, who scored 8 points in the final, was recognized as the tournament’s MVP.

Skyliners, competing in their first-ever World Tour final, confirmed their progress in the circuit. Niklas Kropp impressed with a mix of defensive and offensive contributions, while Stefan Kojic kept his side in contention until the final moments.

Following Debrecen, the FIBA international calendar continues in Shanghai at the end of September, with another World Tour stop and the Women’s Series Final. The world’s top teams will gather once more to conclude the season at the highest level of competition.
