The Nepal Olympic Committee –NOC– has announced the creation of a nine-member provisional committee aimed at ensuring the country’s presence in major sports competitions included in the Olympic program. The measure also seeks to provide a stable solution to the internal situation of the NOC, which currently lacks leadership, and to maintain the international activities of national sports associations and federations. The statement, signed by Samim Miya Ansari, member of the NOC General Assembly and President of the National Muslim Commission of Nepal, confirms that the new committee has already begun its work.

Committee to be led by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan

The committee will be chaired by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, former President and Honorary President of the NOC, and was established this past August 11 during a joint meeting that brought together presidents, secretary generals, and representatives from 23 affiliated sports associations. According to the assembly, the mandate is to make the committee dynamic and results-oriented, with the aim of firmly institutionalizing Olympic activities in Nepal.

The composition of this body responds to the need to coordinate national and international actions within the Olympic movement and to ensure that athletes have the necessary organizational support to compete in top-level events.

Immediate start of its functions

The committee began its functions earlier this week and will work to define an action plan that guarantees Nepal’s participation in the Olympic calendar and other relevant international competitions. The constitutive meeting determined that priority actions will include close cooperation with national sports federations.

The NOC has announced that it will soon call a press conference to present the plans and programs that will guide the work of the new committee. These are expected to include strengthening the institutionalization of Olympic activities in the country and ensuring the continuity of its representation in the international sports arena.
