On February 19, as part of the 11th edition of the International Convention on Sport in Africa (CISA2025), a seminar was held for sports journalists. The aim of the workshop was to provide media professionals with the technical and strategic skills needed to effectively cover major sporting events. Topics covered included press access rules, available resources and best practices for live coverage.
Speakers emphasized the importance of the role of commentators, who are the main driving force behind live coverage of sporting events. In addition, a crucial issue for African media was addressed: the acquisition of audiovisual rights. A prominent example was the dispute between the Senegalese national broadcaster RTS and the private group Emédia during the broadcasting of the 2022 World Cup matches.
SPORTS DEVELOPMENT POLICIES
The seminar also served as a space to discuss the future of soccer in Africa, sports development policies on the continent and initiatives to improve sports infrastructure. Journalists had the opportunity to interact directly with the speakers, ask questions and share experiences among colleagues.
Another key topic was the drafting and distribution of press releases, an essential document for conveying information about activities or events. Experts discussed in detail how to optimize this resource to ensure effective and professional communication.
EXPERTS ON AFRICAN SPORT
The event was attended by leading journalists such as Philippe Doucet (Canal+), Christophe Diremszian (RFI), Aboubakry Ba (ex Canal+ and RTS) and Christian Seychal (ex Eurosport). Also present was the CEO of the Malaysian National Games, a specialist in broadcasting issues. This panel of experts provided a valuable platform to discuss the challenges of sport in Africa and the growing impact of media in the promotion of sporting talent and competitions.
Attendees explored key topics such as media coverage of major competitions and the role of new technologies in broadcasting matches. Speakers shared their experiences and visions for strengthening the visibility of African sport globally.
A MORE INCLUSIVE FUTURE IN SPORT
In summary, this seminar fostered collaboration between journalists and sport stakeholders, paving the way for a more dynamic and inclusive future. The journalists expressed their gratitude to the organizers of CISA, especially its president, Diamil Faye, for providing this opportunity at every edition since 2007.
