World Triathlon has informed its national federations this week of a reform plan aimed at strengthening transparency and consistency in its internal regulations, particularly in the electoral processes of the international federation and the continental confederations.
In a letter sent to presidents and secretary generals, Antonio F. Arimany, president of World Triathlon, stressed that the recent ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on June 24 highlighted “contradictions between World Triathlon’s regulations,” making it necessary to launch a comprehensive review of the current framework.
Independent experts to review the rules
Arimany announced the creation of “an independent task force made up of internationally renowned specialists in international law and sports governance, free of any partial interest,” with the goal of analyzing and improving the federation’s regulatory framework.
“We want to ensure a clear, coherent model aligned with the highest international legal standards,” said the president. He also revealed that meetings with the presidents of the continental confederations will begin soon to agree on a common electoral framework that will strengthen “fairness, consistency, and credibility” throughout the governance system.

Unified electoral model for federation and confederations
The proposal aims for World Triathlon and its confederations to share the same electoral regulations, adapted to the different sensitivities and cultural realities of the sport. “It is essential to involve everyone in building a framework that reflects the diversity of our sport and serves as a reference point for governance in the sports world,” added Arimany.
The president also confirmed that he will start discussions with national federations to present these initiatives in detail, gather feedback, and develop a consensus-based model.
Response to calls for greater transparency
World Triathlon’s communication comes as the Danish Triathlon Federation sent a letter to the Executive Committee demanding greater clarity on recent disciplinary proceedings. These requests, focused on transparency, integrity, and regulatory consistency, are precisely the areas World Triathlon seeks to strengthen through its reform plan.
Arimany emphasized that “good governance and integrity have always been, and will continue to be, priorities for World Triathlon” and that the announced measures will “consolidate the federation as a model of modern, open, and transparent governance.”
