The city of Adelaide is entering the countdown to host the largest beach volleyball event ever held in Asia or Oceania: the FIVB World Championship 2025, taking place from November 14 to 23 at The Drive and Pinky Flat. With only 100 days remaining, the city is already buzzing with excitement, and preparations are underway to transform its downtown into a true sporting and cultural epicenter.
To celebrate this milestone, a “mystery box” was installed at Rundle Mall, where Olympic medalist Kerri Pottharst, event ambassador, surprised the public by giving away 300 beach volleyballs. “Adelaide will be a crucial moment to kick off the next golden era of our sport,” said Pottharst, in the year marking the 25th anniversary of her historic gold medal. Tickets for the tournament are already available, and fans will be able to watch the Australian teams from the opening day.
An unprecedented sporting and cultural experience
During the first week of competition, Pinky Flat will be transformed into the “Central Beach District,” a unique festival combining world-class sporting action with the beach culture of South Australia. Live music, local cuisine, interactive volleyball experiences, and a stage with views of the Adelaide skyline will turn this event into much more than a sports date: it will be a celebration of the Australian lifestyle at its finest.
From Volleyball Australia, CEO Andrew Dee highlighted that the championship will bring fans closer to the stars of the sport, but will also offer a vibrant experience in the heart of the city. Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison added that this international event will put South Australia on the global map, attracting visitors and boosting the local economy. The boutique city is ready to become the dream destination for athletes and sports fans.
