Formula 1 has solidified its position as one of the most profitable sports in the world, recording an increase in revenue for the fourth consecutive year. In 2024, total revenue reached $3.65 billion (€3.51 billion), representing a 14% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is largely due to the expansion of its calendar, which included a record 24 races, as well as the rise in television rights and sponsorship deals.
Formula 1’s popularity is also reflected in its global visibility. In 2024, the championship was watched by a total of 1.6 billion viewers, with an average of 66 million per race. Additionally, circuit attendance reached 6.5 million people, which is understandable given the increase in the number of races. Despite a decline in revenue from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to ticket sales and hospitality, F1 remains a continuously growing business.
REVENUE AND VISIBILITY DEVELOPMENT
Formula 1 achieved an operating result of $492 million (€474 million) in 2024, surpassing the $392 million recorded the previous year. Revenue is primarily distributed among television rights, which account for 32.8% of the total, Grand Prix promoters with 29.3%, and sponsors with 18.6%. This balance reflects the diversification of F1’s revenue streams, contributing to its financial stability.
The championship’s visibility has significantly increased, with a total of 1.6 billion viewers in 2024. This translates to an average of 66 million viewers per race, indicating growing interest from a global audience. Furthermore, circuit attendance reached 6.5 million people, a record partly due to the increased number of races on the calendar. This combination of television audience and live attendance strengthens Formula 1’s position as one of the most popular and profitable sports in the world.
