Wat Ratchathiwat School hosted the third National Muaythai Congress, a key initiative to preserve Muaythai’s cultural heritage while empowering young athletes through sport and education.

Organized by the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand under the themeMuaythai for Everybody,” the congress aims to reinforce traditional Muaythai values and align them with the sport’s modern evolution, including its growing recognition by the Olympic Movement.

The event also served as a crucial platform to identify and nurture the next generation of Thai athletes preparing for major international events such as the IFMA Youth World Championships.

The congress opened with remarks from Mr. Phatthana Chan-o, Principal of Wat Ratchathiwat School, and welcomed distinguished guests including Prince Nawaphansa Yugala, Chair of the IFMA Advisory Board; Colonel Preymindra Ratcharitborirak; M.L. Anuporn Kasemsan na Ayudhaya; Air Vice Marshal Chukiat Pongtawon; Janice Lyn, IFMA Sport Director; and Stephan Fox.

Prince Nawaphansa Yugala highlighted Muaythai’s cultural and social significance, stating,

“Muaythai transcends sport; it is an enduring cultural heritage that instills discipline, respect, and resilience in our youth. Programs like this cultivate future ambassadors who will carry Thailand’s proud traditions onto the global stage.”

The congress is part of the broader Muaythai Lifestyle Project, which integrates sport, education, and cultural preservation. This grassroots initiative focuses on building character, discipline, and inclusion among young participants while promoting national identity.

Janice Lyn emphasized Muaythai’s unique role as both a cultural expression and a platform for global engagement: “Muaythai is more than a competitive sport. It is a living symbol of Thai values and a pathway for youth development and international exchange.”

Standing at the intersection of tradition and modern opportunity, Muaythai is gaining international prominence. Through initiatives like the National Congress, Thailand is leading efforts to preserve its martial heritage while positioning Muaythai as a globally relevant sport. With the Olympic Movement opening new avenues, Thailand exemplifies how cultural identity and youth development can advance hand in hand.
