Paralympic athlete Rory A. Cooper, globally recognized for his work in sports science and technological innovation, has been confirmed as keynote speaker at the VISTA 2025 Conference, which will be held in December in Cairo, Egypt. Winner of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation awarded by President Joe Biden, Cooper will share his vision on the advances that are transforming Paralympic sport.

Cooper’s keynote address, titled “Technological Advances Transforming Paralympic Sport: Perspectives and Innovations That Will Change the Paralympic Games,” is part of the central theme of VISTA 2025: “Para Sport Development: Inclusion, Transformation, Health and Performance.” The conference, organized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), will bring together researchers, professionals, and specialists from around the world between December 7 and 10.

Technology as a Driver of Change in Paralympic Sport

During his presentation, Cooper will explore how engineering and applied science are expanding performance potential, accessibility, and participation in Paralympic sports. Among the highlighted innovations are equipment designs inspired by kirigami, which reduce costs and improve resilience and customization, as well as advances in osseointegration for prosthetics that allow for more efficient power transfer, greater comfort, and enhanced competitive ability.

The keynote will also address the integration of artificial intelligence in performance analysis and personalized training, as well as in the rapid design of new technologies. In addition, it will highlight progress in motorized platforms for wheelchair sports such as football, hockey, and tennis, creating new competitive opportunities for athletes with a wider range of disabilities.
