Riyadh hosted the second meeting of the Coordination Commission (CoCom) for the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games this past weekend. Following the first meeting in April, the members of the Commission and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) met again to review progress ahead of the event, which will take place in November next year.
CoCom is a specialized body of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) responsible for overseeing preparations, ensuring operational readiness, and supporting the smooth running of the Games. Its work is key to supporting the organizers through the different stages of the process and ensuring that the Riyadh 2025 edition is delivered to the expected standards.
The members of the Coordination Commission
The group is made up of representatives from different ISSA member countries. It is chaired by Konul Nurullayeva (Azerbaijan) and also includes Gen. Idriss Dokony (Chad), Saeed Abdulghaffar (United Arab Emirates), Faris Al-Kooheji (Bahrain), and Oybek Kasimov (Uzbekistan).
During the meeting, introductory presentations were given by the various departments involved in the organization and visits were made to sports venues. The second day took place at the Athletes’ Village, allowing the delegation to see first-hand the operations at the site and the accommodation facilities planned for the participants.
Preparations in the run-up to Riyadh 2025
The meeting strengthens the collaboration between the ISSA and the LOC and provides the Commission with a strategic opportunity to directly assess the progress made. These regular meetings allow needs to be identified, key areas to be coordinated, and possible adjustments to be anticipated to ensure the success of the event.
The Islamic Solidarity Games will be held in Riyadh from November 7 to 21, 2025, with the participation of some 3,500 athletes from ISSA member countries. The sports program will include 21 disciplines and two parasports, consolidating the event as one of the region’s major multisport events.
