Ju-Jitsu is gaining significant momentum within European university sport. During the European Universities Combat Sports Championships in Warsaw, leaders from the Ju-Jitsu European Union and the Ju-Jitsu International Federation met with the European University Sports Association to strengthen collaboration and explore strategic opportunities.

Robert Perc, President of JJEU, and Joachim Thumfart, General Director of JJIF, toured the championship venues with EUSA President Adam Roczek, Director of Sports Events Liam Smith, and Sports Manager Miha Zvan, gaining firsthand insight into the organization and operations of the event and the student-athlete experience.

The discussions focused on creating structured opportunities for student-athletes, fostering the sport’s values of respect, discipline, and personal development, and identifying ways to expand Ju-Jitsu’s role across European universities.

On the international stage, Ju-Jitsu is also gaining recognition. Already acknowledged by the International University Sports Federation, the sport is confirmed to be part of the 2026 FISU World University Combat Sports Championship in Brasília, Brazil, from 8–13 June.

FISU, the global authority for university sports, oversees more than 60 sports and partners with national university federations worldwide. Participation in FISU events offers Ju-Jitsu athletes international exposure and positions the discipline within a wider university sports community.

The Warsaw meeting underscores a shared commitment to integrating martial arts into academic sports programs. By combining operational insights, strategic planning, and international engagement, Ju-Jitsu officials and EUSA are building a stronger framework for student development.

With sustained collaboration, Ju-Jitsu is poised to secure a prominent and lasting role within European university sport, providing athletes with competitive opportunities and promoting the discipline’s values throughout higher education institutions.
