The Organising Committee of French Alps 2030 presented a progress report this week to the International Olympic Committee -IOC- during the Executive Board meeting held in Milan. President Edgar Grospiron and CEO Cyril Linette addressed the session via video conference, outlining the consolidation of the organising team, which includes professionals with experience from Paris 2024 and other strategic sectors, as well as the development of the Games’ vision, to be unveiled later this year.

Preparations are underway for the handover of the Olympic flag from Milano Cortina 2026, scheduled to take place on 22 February in Verona during the Closing Ceremony of the next Olympic Winter Games. Meanwhile, work continues on the venue masterplan, discussions with potential commercial partners are progressing, and stakeholders are collaborating on the first multi-annual budget.

Coordination Commission for French Alps 2030

IOC President Kirsty Coventry confirmed the composition of the Coordination Commission that will oversee preparations for the Alpine Games. Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, appointed as Chair last year, will lead the group, whose first meeting is scheduled from 1 to 3 December.

The appointed members are Ian Chesterman (Australia), Johan Eliasch (Great Britain), Ivo Ferriani (Italy), Frida Hansdotter Jansson (Sweden), Jae Youl Kim (South Korea), Princess Nora of Liechtenstein, and Damaris Young (Panama). A representative from the International Paralympic Committee -IPC- will be added in due course.

Sports programme and postponed decisions

The IOC Executive Board also discussed the sports programme for French Alps 2030. Decisions regarding snowboard parallel giant slalom and Nordic combined have been postponed until 2026, when data from Milano Cortina 2026 will be available for review. This programme revision, launched in June 2024, aims to ensure a balance between youth appeal, economic sustainability, and sporting diversity.

The remaining disciplines are expected to be ratified at the next Executive Board meeting, scheduled for December.

Philanthropic initiative in Salt Lake City-Utah 2034

During the same session, Podium34 was presented, a philanthropic programme led by the Organising Committee of the Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 Olympic Winter Games. The initiative brings together leading families and organisations from Utah to support both the Games and local community projects.

At its launch on 8 September, more than USD 200 million had already been secured from 17 Founding Donors, including nine “Captain-level” contributors pledging at least USD 20 million each.
