The World Squash Federation (World Squash) has announced the creation of the World Squash Academy, in partnership with the World Academy of Sport (WAoS). This global project aims to drive the development of squash at all levels, capitalising on the historic opportunity presented by the sport’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The goal is to provide national federations, coaches and other stakeholders with a learning platform that centralises resources, fosters capacity building and opens new opportunities for growth. The official launch is planned for 2026, following a consultation process with members and key representatives of the international squash community.

A qualitative leap in education and digitalisation

The World Squash Academy will deliver a quality-assured system to expand the federation’s coaching programme in multiple languages with an inclusive approach. Its tech-driven platform will host learning content and resources, enabling more efficient and global access.

“The creation of this platform aligns perfectly with our new World Squash strategy,” said Zena Wooldridge, President of World Squash. “We recognise the vital role of national federations and squash facilities in capitalising on the Olympic opportunity. The World Squash Academy will not only broaden the learning and development offer but also make it more accessible to the entire squash community.”

A growing trend in international sport

The launch of the World Squash Academy is not an isolated case. In recent years, several international federations have invested in similar structures to strengthen education and training across their communities. The International Paralympic Committee developed an online education system after its constitutional reform in 2021, while sports such as tennis and swimming have also incorporated digital learning platforms into their strategic plans.

FIFA has promoted its FIFA Training Centre as a global football education hub, while FIBA operates its Academy as a central resource for basketball. Squash is following this trend, but with the ambition of placing the model at the heart of its Olympic projection, combining technology, multilingual capability and knowledge exchange across federations.

A partner with global expertise in education

The project is backed by the experience of WAoS, an organisation with more than 25 years of expertise in sports education and development. Its Managing Director, Chris Solly, underlined the importance of this step: “We are excited to partner with World Squash at such a pivotal moment for the sport. With squash’s inclusion in Los Angeles 2028, this platform will become a destination for all those interested in getting involved when the sport is presented to a whole new global audience.”

WAoS has already supported multiple international federations in building sustainable development programmes, reaching over one million learners worldwide. Its Censeo platform, which will underpin the World Squash Academy, combines technological innovation with a focus on accessibility and cultural diversity.
