The Secretary General of the Association of National Olympic Committees -ANOC-, Gunilla Lindberg, attended the 63rd Panam Sports General Assembly in Asunción, where she presented an update on ongoing activities and the organization’s commitment to intercontinental collaboration. Her presence reflects ANOC’s support for building alliances between continents and promoting major regional multi-sport events.
As part of this work, ANOC is providing international coverage of the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games through ‘ANOC.tv’, allowing the competition to reach audiences beyond the Americas and increasing its global visibility.
Sports Program Expanded for Lima 2027
During the Assembly, Panam Sports approved the inclusion of bowling and racquetball in the sports program of the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. With this addition, the total number of disciplines rises to 38, showcasing the breadth and diversity of sport across the continent.
Panam Sports President Neven Ilic explained that the decision responds “to the interests of many National Olympic Committees and to the historical relevance of both sports in the Americas.” Racquetball made its Pan Am debut in 1995, while bowling became a medal sport in 1991 after being showcased in 1983.

The Assembly brought together prominent figures in international sport, including the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña Palacios, the Vice President of the International Olympic Committee -IOC-, Gerardo Werthein, and representatives from National Olympic Committees across the Americas.
The President of the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee, Federico Tong, and the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, presented the planned progress and projects, with an investment exceeding 750 million US dollars. Candidate cities for the 2031 Pan American Games, including Asunción and Rio-Niterói, also presented their credentials, with the election scheduled for October 10 in Santiago, Chile.
During the event, the official logo and brand of the Games were unveiled. “A brand inspired by the dynamism of Peru, reflecting a country that thrives on its diversity, its mix of races and traditions,” stated Tong. For his part, Manyari noted that “our symbol is the flame that comes from Machu Picchu and the entire silhouette of Huayna Picchu.”
The Panam Sports President highlighted that the new logo “represents the identity, passion, and particular characteristics of all of Peru, as well as the unity of the Americas.”
The Lima 2027 Pan American Games will be held from July 16 to August 1 in the Peruvian capital, with the participation of 7,000 athletes from across the continent.
