The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has launched ADEL for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Paralympics, an online course developed in collaboration with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). This training is aimed at Paralympic athletes, guides for visually impaired athletes, and coaches, with the aim of informing them about the specific anti-doping rules for the winter event.

The course is available on the ADEL platform in English and French, and a Spanish version will be published in the coming weeks. There is also the option to request the content in other languages if necessary.

Key content and anti-doping requirements

ADEL allows participants to learn about the rules, procedures, and anti-doping requirements of the Games, including medication testing, applying for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs), and the risks associated with taking supplements. It also covers whereabouts obligations and rights and responsibilities during testing.

The new version of the course has been improved after gathering feedback from athletes who participated in the previous edition for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Among the new features is greater compatibility with screen readers, which facilitates access for people with different abilities.

AMA encourages all anti-doping organizations linked to Paralympic sport to incorporate this course into their educational programs so that as many athletes, coaches, and guides as possible arrive in Milano Cortina with the necessary knowledge.

Promotion of the course

Jude Ellis, IPC Anti-Doping Manager, has highlighted the importance of “starting the educational process well before arrival at the Games venue, encouraging National Paralympic Committees and anti-doping organizations to actively promote participation in the ADEL course.”
