The Moroccan National Olympic Committee has announced its integration as the second international partner of the Olympic World Library, the digital library managed by the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Studies Center. The OWL functions as a catalog, information portal, and search engine dedicated exclusively to Olympic knowledge.
OSC Director Maria Bogner highlights the importance of this collaboration and “the shared commitment of both entities to preserve and disseminate Olympic knowledge, facilitating access to collections and documentation globally.”
The digitization of the CNOM
Majd Chekroun, director of communications at the CNOM, points out that “integration into the OWL network is in line with the Moroccan organization’s digitization strategy. The aim is to leverage the IOC’s experience to offer an open digital space where users can consult the CNOM library and have access to a specialized research tool for Olympic documentation and literature.”
The CNOM collection, which is now available through the OWL, has more than 1,500 publications, of which some 650 are exclusive documents covering the committee’s activities and Morocco’s participation in the Olympic Games. The portal also provides access to the CNOM’s Study and Documentation Center and its Digital Olympic Academy.
A unique resource for African Olympism
The integration of the CNOM library into the OWL facilitates access to a unique collection on sport and the Olympic Games on the African continent, both for local users and international readers. Chekroun highlights “the value of this project after several months of work on data migration, emphasizing the CNOM’s contribution to the promotion of Olympic values and the preservation of its history and heritage.”
The OWL, as a global reference center for Olympic knowledge, thus strengthens its network of partners, enabling Olympic Movement institutions with reference libraries to make them visible and accessible to a global audience.
The Olympic World Library, a global benchmark
The Olympic World Library brings together more than 42,000 titles, more than 15,000 digital documents, and exceeds 400,000 page views per year. Its collection includes all publications from the IOC, the Olympic Games Organizing Committees, and a wide selection of books and academic articles addressing all historical, cultural, social, and economic dimensions of the Olympic Movement.
