The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) continues to strengthen its commitment to the global growth of women’s basketball through its Her World, Her Rules (HWHR) program, one of its most successful grassroots initiatives. With the application process now open for 2025 funding, National Federations from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania can submit their project proposals until March 10.

A GLOBAL BOOST FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Since its launch in 2018, the HWHR program has impacted more than 180,000 girls worldwide, encouraging their participation in basketball and promoting healthy lifestyle habits. The initiative focuses on engaging girls aged 6 to 15 in basketball activities that not only develop their athletic skills but also reinforce values such as teamwork, discipline, and fair play.

Through the collaboration between FIBA and National Federations, 133 countries have received financial support to implement projects under the HWHR umbrella. This has helped amplify the visibility of women’s basketball, attract greater media attention, and strengthen female participation in the sport.

MORE SUPPORT AND FUNDING FOR 2025

For the upcoming year, FIBA has reaffirmed its commitment to financially supporting National Federations that submit projects aligned with its women’s basketball development strategy. Selected proposals will receive funding based on their quality and the expected impact on each federation’s broader basketball plan.

In Europe, where HWHR originally began, the program is already operating under a two-year funding cycle, which will conclude in mid-2026. Meanwhile, Federations from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania must submit their applications before March 10, 2024, with funding allocations to be confirmed at a later date.
